The Asian Arowana, also known as the High Back Golden Arowana, is a rare and magnificent fish that resembles the traditional Chinese Dragon. It is considered fortunate and represents strength, success, luck, and money, providing wonderful Feng Shui for any aquarist. These fish, known across Asia as a sign of wealth, have a life span of over 20 years and are a lovely investment for the perfect tank.

The gold rims on the scales reach the fourth row of scales, but as they mature, they expand out to the sixth level. “Golden coloring crossing over the back” is the meaning of the term “Cross Back.”

The Full Gold Arowana has a gold center with a gold ring around the edges. When fully matured, a good specimen will resemble a solid chunk of gold. When compared to other Cross Back Arowana variants, Full Gold Arowanas have lighter-colored fins and eyes. The speed with which the gold rims of the scales reach the 6th-row scales determines the grade of every Cross Back Gold Arowana.

I. You would love the fish because…

It has metallic scales that resemble coins, whiskers that protrude from its chin, and it undulates like the paper dragons seen in Chinese New Year parades. Because of its likeness, the fish is thought to bring good luck and riches, which is why it is such a popular aquarium fish.

II. Is this fish species peaceful or hostile?

Highly hostile with specific care requirements.

IV. Species compatibility

Singly or community of tough fish like Large catfish. Parrotfish, Jaguar Cichlid, Pacu (if the tank is large enough), Silver Dollar Fish, Large Plecos, Bichir, and Green Terror Cichlid.

V. How to feed this species?

Juveniles will readily eat small fish, tadpoles, live brine shrimp, live brown worms, small earthworms, and other live foods, but should be trained to accept pellets, sticks, chunks of frozen foods, chopped and whole market shrimp, and other meaty foods and adults-only eat live things
