Rio Atabapo Wild Altum Angel (F0)
The Rio Atabapo Altum Angel (Pterophyllum altum) is a freshwater fish that originated in the acidic blackwater rivers of Colombia and Venezuela:
Appearance: This fish has a silver base color with three brownish/red vertical stripes and red striations in its fins. When mature, it may develop red spotting and a blueish green dorsal overcast.
Size: Adult Rio Atabapo Altum Angels can grow up to 6 inches in size.
Habitat: They live in slow-moving rivers, often near submerged vegetation and large roots. They prefer to stay close to cover, such as branches or tree trunks that have fallen into the water.
Diet: They eat invertebrates, insects, frozen, and prepared feeds.
Tank requirements: They require a tall aquarium with soft, acidic water, and a smooth substrate. They should be kept in groups of five or more with tankmates of similar size and peaceful disposition.
Temperament: They are generally peaceful, but can be aggressive towards other fish of their own species and may eat small fish.
Difficulty: They are considered a "Holy Grail" fish for some because they are difficult to obtain and keep.
